LeoNardo Dicaprio starrer”Killers of the Flower Moon: Martin Scorsese’s Gripping Tale of Murder, Greed, and Institutional Racism”
‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘ is an upcoming film directed by Martin Scorsese. It is based on the nonfiction book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann. The story revolves around the mysterious murders of members of the Osage tribe in Oklahoma during the 1920s. The Osage people were wealthy due to the oil deposits on their land, and they became targets of local white cattleman William Hale, who sought to seize their economic power. Over the course of a decade, Hale and others killed more than 60 members of the tribe. The FBI investigated the murders, and Hale was eventually convicted.
In approaching the story, Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays the character Ernest Burkhart, were not interested in presenting a white-savior narrative. Instead, the film focuses on Burkhart, a white man married to an Osage tribe member, who is actively involved in the killings. It explores the clash of cultures, the rise of the KKK, white supremacy, and the institutional racism that allowed these murders to persist. The film aims to delve into the mindset of the people involved and the complexities of their relationships.
The cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Ernest Burkhart, Robert De Niro as Bill Hale, Brendan Fraser as Hale’s attorney, Lily Gladstone as Mollie Burkhart (Ernest’s wife and an Osage tribe member), and Jesse Plemons as FBI agent Tom White. Jack White of the White Stripes also has a small role in the film.
Killers of the Flower Moon is set to premiere on October 6, 2023, before going into wide release in theaters on October 20. It is produced by Paramount and Apple, and while it will have a theatrical release, it is expected to be available for streaming on Apple’s platform after its theatrical run.
